Recording Your Voice with Audacity

1. Open Audacity

2. Click on the record button, then talk.

3. When finished talking, click on the stop button.

4. You can use the pause button to pause during the talk.


If you want to delete the entire recording and re-record.

1. Delete the track and re-record.


If you want to delete a part of recording.

1. Select area the you want to delete.

2. Choose “CUT” command from the Edit menu.


If you want to insert content in to the audio recording

1. Go to the end of the voice recording and place the cursor at the end.

2. Click on the record button and record what you want to insert. This action will record into a new track. When you are finished click on the stop button. Save.

3. Select and copy from the new track what you want to insert to the original track.

4. On the original track, place the cursor where you want to insert the sound.

5. Choose paste, then save.

6. Listen to the original track.

7. If you are satisfied, then delete the second track by clicking on the X.


If you want to replace a part of audio recording ( i.e. you made a mistake and you want to replace the phrase.)

1. Select the phrase that you want to delete.

2. Choose “Split” command from the Edit menu. You will now have the phrase you want to delete on the new track. SAVE!

3. Clear the selection by clicking out side of the selected area.

4. Mute the newly created track.

5. On the main track, bring the cursor a few seconds before the area where you want to re-record.

6. Click on the play button and practice a few times.

7. When you are ready click on the record button to record the new sentence. Do not worry about over lapping at the end of the new sentence. You can move the original sentence later.

8. Listen to the recording. If you are happy with the result delete the muted track.

9. If you overlapped your new sentence with the old one do the following.

a. In the original track, choose from the overlapped area to the ending.

b. Choose “Split” command from the Edit menu. This will create a new track.

c. Use the Timeshift tool to drag the recording back.


5. If you are done with the recording, export the recording to mp3 by choosing “Export as mp3” command in the File menu.
