INTERNAL LINK

button_link.png This button will create a internal link. When you click on the button, you will see two brackets set will show up, [ [ and ] ]. You will place a word or two to create a new internal link, i.e.[ [ NewPage ] ]. By creating a new internal link, you are creating a new page. So if you need to create a new page, you need to create an internal link. The best practice for the link name is NOT to have any spaces. It is NOT cAse SenSItivE.

EXTERNAL LINK

button_extlink.png This is very similar to above internal link. However, the link must start with http. Word(s) after the URL will appear as the link text.

    extlink.gif

    extlink2.gif

For further information go to Wikipedia tutorialExternal Links section.

You can also link RealMedia files from our streaming server, like this. [rtsp://cinema.rice.edu/audio/RealMedia/development/million.rm streaming server] The result would be ...

[rtsp://cinema.rice.edu/audio/RealMedia/development/million.rm streaming server]

LEVEL 2 HEADLINE

button_headline.png Level 2 Headline. This will create another headline within the page you are working on. The Level 2 headline can be edited by itself.

EMBEDDED IMAGE

There are two ways to do this, internally and externally.

Embedding external image is a good idea for the copyright reasons, if you don't own the right or have the permission. You will be leaving the image on someone else's server and you can give appropriate credit to the image.

1. Get image URL. If you don't know the URL, open the image on your browser, right click on the image, then choose properties. You should see URL address ending with jpg, gif, or png, so copy that address.

2. Next just type or paste the url address in the edit section without any formatting, like http://www.kumahata.com/pics/Jael/Jael_SS_Size.jpg. Then the credit should be followed by placing an external link, like

    http://www.kumahata.com/pics/Jael/Jael_SS_Size.jpg
     kumahata.com

The above will look like

    Jael_SS_Size.jpg
    kumahata.com

button_image.png Use this button if you want to embed internal image, but you need to upload the image first. (The image size MUST NOT exceed 100k.) You MUST own the copyright, have copyright permission, or it be public domain image to upload. To UPLOAD image files, look for 'Upload file' link in toolbox menu to the left. If you don't see it , then use the Special pages pages link in the toolbox menu. Then choose Upload file from there. (If you are going to upload image file by permission, then you should still give credit for the copyright.)

Once you reach the upload file page, follow the instruction there. You can upload jpg, gif, and png as image files. Once you upload a image, it will give you a link to tumbnail like

Copy and paste the link to the page you want the image to appear. You will find above example in LRC_Wiki_SandBox:Community_Portal.

If you don't want to use thumbnail, then use this button_image.png button. You will get . Change the file name, like . The result looks like

    Image:Black cat internal image.jpg

MEDIA FILE LINK

button_media.png This link only works with the media files you uploaded. DO NOT upload any media file larger than 100K.

To upload files, follow the direction under Embedded Image.

    mediafilelink.gif

If the file is larger than 100k, the alternative way would be to place the file somewhere else in the internet. Then you can use the external link feature to play your audio. In fact, for our use, rtsp has been enabled in this wiki. If you have a file needs to be played from our streaming server and know the URL, just use external link like [rtsp://cinema.rice.edu/audio/RealMedia/development/million.rm streaming server] It will appear like this: [rtsp://cinema.rice.edu/audio/RealMedia/development/million.rm streaming server].

MATHMATICAL FORMULA

button_math.png I don't think we will be using mathmatic formula, so don't worry about this button. If you MUST find out,

IGNORE WIKI FORMATTING

button_nowiki.png When you MUST use wiki format characters such as [ and ] , use this function to make those text show up as unformatted text.

    nowiki.gif

SIGNATURE WITH TIMESTAMP

button_sig.png You should click on this button at the end of your story to place your signature and timestamp automatically. So when a user, in this case Langtech, click on the button, - - ~ ~ ~ ~ will show up indicating the signature. When you save

    sign.gif

it will be

    sign2.gif

HORIZONTAL LINE
